அகல்விளக்கு : அவருக்கு, சாலை இருபுறங்களிலும் தி.மு.க., மற்றும் காங்கிரஸ் கொடிகளை கட்டி, தமிழகத்தின் பாரம்பரியமான நாதஸ்வரம், மேளதாளம், கேரளத்தின் ஜன்டை மேளம், மேற்கத்திய பேண்டு வாத்தியம் முழங்க வரவேற்பு அளிக்கப்பட்டது. அகல் விளக்கை ஏந்திய இளம்பெண்கள் அவருக்கு மலர்களைத் துவினர். வீட்டு வாசலில், "இதயம் கனிந்த நல்வரவு' என, மாகோலம் இடப்பட்டு இருந்தது.சி.ஐ.டி., காலனி வீட்டில் 30 நிமிடம் கருணாநிதி, கனிமொழி எம்.பி., ஆகியோருடன் விவாதித்தார். அப்போது, தனக்கும் கருணாநிதிக்கும் உள்ள, நீண்ட அரசியல் வாழ்க்கையை பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார்.

ஓட்டலில் விருந்து: எந்த வேட்பாளரையும் ஆதரிக்காமல் உள்ள கட்சிகளிடமும் ஆதரவு கேட்பேன் என அவர் கூறியதன் மூலம், மேற்கு வங்க முதல்வர் மம்தா பானர்ஜி, தனக்கு ஆதரவு அளிக்க வேண்டும் என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளதோடு, அவரிடம், நேரில் ஆதரவு கேட்பேன் என்பதையும் பிரணாப் சூசகமாக தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

சி.ஐ.டி., காலனி வீட்டிலிருந்து, கருணாநிதியின் காரில், விருந்து அளிக்கப்படும் அடையாறு "பார்க் ஷரடன்' ஓட்டலுக்கு பிரணாப் சென்றார். அங்கு, தி.மு.க, பொருளாளர் ஸ்டாலின், மத்திய அமைச்சர் அழகிரி மற்றும் தி.மு.க., முன்னணி தலைவர்கள் பிரணாப் முகர்ஜியை வரவேற்று, விருந்து அளிக்கப்படும் ஓட்டல் அறைக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றனர்.

Pranab Mukherjee starts campaign in Chennai, says 'no scope of miracle' in presidential poll

Chennai: Pranab Mukherjee, the Congress-led UPA's candidate for the upcoming presidential polls, kick-started his campaign today and his first stop was Chennai, where he met DMK Chief M Karunanidhi. Mr Mukherjee, who was given a colourful welcome by the DMK party workers, said that it was "natural to start (the presidential) campaign with Mr Karunanidhi's blessing. I have known him since the 70s and the DMK has been a stable partner in the UPA I and II governments."

Responding to Mr Mukherjee's call for support, Mr Karunanidhi said, "Your victory is a foregone conclusion. You are definitely a precious jewel in the crown of the Congress. We solemnly support your candidature and wish you all the success in your endeavours."

The road to Mr Karunanidhi's CIT residence in Chennai today had DMK party cadre holding plates of rose petals and candles to welcome Mr Mukherjee, with South Indian music playing in the background.
The DMK also hosted a dinner in honour of the former Finance Minister, which was attended by UPA leaders and central ministers including Home Minister P Chidambaram, M K Alagiri and Narayanaswamy. The DMK was represented by MK Stalin, T R Baalu, Kanimozhi, Dayanidi Maran and A Raja.

Mr Mukherjee said today that he will be "seeking the support of those political parties who have not yet declared their choice for the Presidential election." His second leg of campaign would be in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Mr Mukherjee, who earlier this week quit as the country's Finance Minister and filed his nomination papers signed by top UPA leaders, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, has the numbers heavily stacked in his favour. With the support of NDA allies like JD(U) and Shiv Sena, Mr Mukherjee has over 56 per cent of the electoral college on his side.

The former Finance Minister is contesting the polls against former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma. Tacitly referring to what seems to be an inevitable defeat for Mr Sangma, Mr Mukherjee said today, "The presidential election is a matter of numbers. There is no question of a miracle."

BCCI bans five players accused of spot-fixing

Mumbai: The disciplinary committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday, banned five players accused of fixing in a sting operation during this year's Indian Premier League.

The three-member committee consisting of BCCI chairman N Srinivasan and board vice-presidents Arun Jaitley and Niranjan Shah  went through the reports submitted by BCCI's anti-corruption wing. ( Click here for BCCI's official release)
While TP Sudhindra (Also read)  has been banned for life, Shalabh Srivastava has been banned from playing for a period of five years. The other three - Mohnish Mishra and Amit Yadav and Abhinav Bali - have been handed a year's ban each.
While Mishra had issued a written apology ( read May 16 report here) days after the sting operation was aired saying that he had 'done it casually to increase his value,' Srivastava had claimed innocence. (read May 15 report here)

தி.மு.க. நடத்தும் டெசோ மாநாட்டை தடுத்து நிறுத்துங்கள்: பிரதமருக்கு சிங்களர் கட்சி கடிதம்

தி.மு.க. சார்பில் வருகிற ஆகஸ்டு 5-ந்தேதி “டெசோ” மாநாடு விழுப்புரத்தில் நடக்கிறது. இதுதொடர்பாக இலங்கையில் ஆளும் கூட்டணியில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ள ஜே.எச்.யூ. (ஜதீகா ஹீலா உருமையா) கட்சி தலைவர் ஒமல்பெ ஷோபிதா தெரோ பிரதமர் மன்மோகன்சிங்குக்கு கடிதம் அனுப்பியுள்ளார். அதில் கூறியிருப்பதாவது:-

தமிழ்நாட்டில் தி.மு.க. நடத்த உள்ள “டெசோ” அமைப்பின் மாநாட்டை தடுத்து நிறுத்துங்கள். ஏனெனில் சுதந்திரமான தனி ஈழம் கோரிக்கை விடுப்பதன் மூலம் அது இலங்கையில் இறையாண்மைக்கும், ஒரு மைப்பாட்டுக்கும் நேரடி அச்சுறுத்தலாக அமையும்.

மேலும் தனிஈழம் கோரிக்கையின் மூலம் இறுதிகட்ட போருக்கு பின்பு உருவான நல்லெண்ணம், நல்லுறவு போன்றவை அழிந்து மீண்டும் மோசமான விளைவுகள் ஏற்படும்.

1976-ம் ஆண்டில் தமிழர் ஐக்கிய விடுதலை முன்னணியினர் கொண்டு வந்த தனிஈழம் தீர்மானத்தினால் இலங்கையில் 30 ஆண்டுகளாக தீவிரவாதமும், போரும் நிகழ்ந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

கடந்த காலத்தில் இந்தியாவுக்குள் எதிர்ப்பு சக்திகள் ஊடுருவ இலங்கை ஒருபோதும் அனுமதித்த தில்லை என்பதை தங்களுக்கு (மன்மோகன்சிங்குக்கு) நினைவுபடுத்த விரும்புகிறேன். மேலும் எதிர்காலத்திலும் அந்த நிலை தொடர்ந்து நீடிக்கும் என உறுதி அளிக்கிறேன்.

நடைபெற்று முடிந்த ஐபிஎல் சீஸன் 5 போட்டித் தொடரின் போது ஸ்பாட் பிக்சிங் எனப்படும் சூதாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட 5 இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் வீரர்களை சஸ்பெண்ட் செய்வதாக இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் வாரியம் அறிவித்தது. மேலும் இப்புகார் குறித்து விசாரிக்க கிரிக்கெட் வாரியத்தின் ஊழல் தடுப்பு அதிகாரி ரவி சவானியை நியமனம் செய்தது.

இந்த அறிக்கையை கிரிக்கெட் வாரியத்தின் ஒழுங்கு நடவடிக்கை குழுவான கிரிக்கெட் வாரிய தலைவர் என்.சீனிவாசன், துணைத் தலைவர்கள் அருண் ஜெட்லி, நிரஞ்சன்ஷா ஆகியோர் ஆய்வு செய்தனர். இதில் இந்த 5 பேரும் சூதாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டது தெரியவந்தது.

India's rocket launch business is open to industry

New Delhi: In a bold move, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is opening up to market forces and is hoping to hand over part of the lucrative rocket launch business and satellite manufacturing to the Indian industry.

India's workhorse rocket, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), which has completed 20 consecutively successful launches under the eagle eye of ISRO, is one such technology that the agency is hoping to hive off to private players. Today, about 80 % of the vehicle is put together with parts supplied by the private industry. If K Radhakrishnan, the current chairman of ISRO and a manager trained at the Indian Institute of Management at Bangalore has his way, then the entire vehicle itself could well be made and launched by private players.

Mr Radhakrishnan says, "The PSLV is a reliable vehicle...there are requirements of putting Indian satellites, and in the global market, the PSLV too has a niche. Capability is there, demand is there, now how to enhance the capacity to realize more PSLV's? As of now more than 400 industrial firms are working for realizing various elements of PSLV. Can we get the Indian space industry to realize the [entire] PSLV vehicle itself?" Each PSLV vehicle costs the tax payer about Rs. 120 crores, and today ISRO can, at best, fabricate four PSLV rockets per year. In the next two-three years, almost a dozen launches of PSLV are already slated and ISRO will be stretched to meet these requirements.

The plan is to carve out a 250-acre, dedicated 'Space Park' adjoining the space port at Sriharikota, which could be used by private players to develop the Indian aerospace industry.

ISRO is also thinking of hiving off the money-spinning communication satellite business. Adding further, Mr Radhakrishnan said, "On communications satellites, there is a large demand for transponders today. So, if the proven platforms of communications satellites...if they could be replicated with the help of the industry. With industry taking a major role, that is another way of meeting the national demands at the earliest possible."

Today, the global space business is valued at $ 177 billion and growing. So, will the Indian industry not want a share? M V Kotwal, Board Member, Larsen & Toubro & President Heavy Engineering and head of L&T's space and nuclear business told NDTV, "If ISRO is interested in partnering the Indian Industry in overall management of the entire Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle programme and the communications satellite fabrication programme, it is a very welcome and necessary step. With its wide experience and expertise in project management, L&T would be positively inclined and well placed to take over the complete programme management with technical support from ISRO. In future, we could jointly explore global opportunities in these domains."

With missions to Mars, moon and sun on the mind, ISRO rightfully seeks to divest itself of repeat and routine manufacturing which is best done by nimble private players, but with the Antrix-Devas fiasco fresh in everyone's mind, will the private players really bite the bait? ISRO now seeks to do what it does best - cutting-edge research. So it now wants to sell off its launcher and communication satellite units to the industry.

Yeddyurappa vs Sadananda Gowda: State in charge rushes to Karnataka, meets both factions to defuse crisis

Bangalore: A day after nine ministers loyal to Karnataka strongman BS Yeddyurappa handed their resignations to Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda, the party's central leadership has rushed the state in charge to Bangalore to defuse the crisis. Dharmendra Pradhan met state party president KS Eshwarappa this morning. He is also expected to meet ministers from the Yeddyurappa camp, who want Mr Gowda to be replaced with Jagadish Shettar.

The chief minister meanwhile is unfazed by the latest rebellion against his leadership. After brief meeting with Governor HR Bhardwaj at the Raj Bhavan this morning, he said he was confident that the crisis would be resolved soon.  "We have faced such crisis in the past and we have resolved them successfully. This time also, I am confident we will resolve the crisis. Party central leaders have assured me", he said. His famous smile was firmly in place.

The nine ministers who handed their resignations to Mr Gowda yesterday are Jagadish Shettar, CM Udasi, Basavaraja Bommai, Murugesh Nirani, V Somanna, Umesh Katti, MP Renukacharya, Revu Naik Belamagi and Raju Gowda. But Mr Gowda has so far refused to accept their resignations. Mr Eshwarappa today also ruled out accepting their resignations. "There is no question of accepting the resignation of the ministers", he told reporters after a meeting with Mr Gowda. The resignation of these ministers, if accepted, could stall much of government functioning. It will bring down the strength of the Sadananda Gowda cabinet to 13 ministers - the Chief Minister already tackles 21 portfolios.

Mr Yeddyurappa's camp - he claims he has the support of 70 MLAs (more than half of the BJP's total strength in the Assembly) - insist they want a change in leadership and have been demanding a legislature party meeting, which has not been called yet. The initial demand that Mr Yeddyurappa be brought back changed some months ago to one for a Lingayat leader as Chief Minister - Minister Jagadish Shettar is the favoured candidate.

This is not the first time that Mr Yeddyurappa has put his party into an embarrassing spot - he is wont to do this periodically. The last time the Yeddyurappa camp brought matters to a boil with a resignation drama, ministers loyal to him had handed their resignations to Mr Yeddyurappa. By giving their letters to the Chief Minister this time, they have signalled that they are upping the ante. But Mr Yeddyurappa himself has been unusually quiet. He has said he will not speak for a month; Karnataka watchers say Mr Yeddyurappa, who is known to be very superstitious, will not do anything in the ashada month, considered inauspicious. He also moved to his new house in Dollars Colony in Bangalore just before the month began, and is said to hope it will bring him luck.

Mr Yeddyurappa was forced to quit as chief minister last year after a report by the state's ombudsman indicted him for corruption. He picked Mr Gowda as his successor. But lately, their relationship has soured, with the protege refusing to oblige his onetime mentor by stepping down. Mr Yeddyurappa's woes have grown considerably since a CBI investigation was ordered against him in illegal mining cases.

The resignation of eight ministers will not threaten the government and the rebel camp's move is clearly an effort to twist the BJP's central leadership's hand and force Mr Gowda out. The BJP's central leadership is reluctant to decide on this demand till the election for President of India takes place on July 19. Party president Nitin Gadkari is also busy with his son's wedding.

Mr Gowda is confident he will complete his term. Elections are due in Karnataka in less than a year.

Lt Colonel Purohit: Did the Army sell short an effective officer?

New Delhi: One by one, 59 witnesses, all from the Army, have told a Court of Inquiry - step one of Army's legal process- why they believe Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit was just doing his job by fraternising with right-wing extremists.

Lt Col Purohit was arrested in November 2008 for a bomb blast on September 29, 2008 in Malegaon in Maharashtra, a communally sensitive area. He is now in a Taloja Jail, near Navi Mumbai.

When the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) asked for the officer, on the grounds that he belonged to the Abhinav Bharat, the Army hastily handed over its man, then posted in Madhya Pradesh.

But during the Court of Inquiry, which concluded last month in Mumbai, the portrait that has emerged of the officer is a flattering one.

Officers have testified that Lieutenant Colonel Purohit had, in the course of his duties, infiltrated organisations like the Students Islamic Movement of India or SIMI. This is exactly what he had been ordered to do as a military intelligence man.

Most significantly, during the course of his statements to the Court of Inquiry, Lieutenant Colonel Purohit has placed on record the inputs he provided his seniors on people like Indresh Kumar (an RSS leader) and Sunil Joshi (allegedly a conspirator in the blast on the Samjhauta Express train headed to Pakistan in 2007; Mr Joshi was murdered in December, 2007).

Mr Purohit told the Court of Inquiry: "I must make a mention here that out of the vast int (intelligence) network development by me with great efforts I came to know about the likely involvement of some right-wing leaders in anti-national activities. The inputs received on 12 October 2008 were immediately fwd (forwarded) to then CO (Commanding Officer) SCLU (Southern Command Liaison Unit) Col Pancpore, OC A Team, Det SCLU, Maj P. Khanzode and to Maj. B. Dey of 1/6 team CCLU (Central Command Liaison Unit) on 12/13 October 2008 itself and a written report in this regard was fwd to Maj Dey on 15 Oct 2008.

Purohit goes on to say: "The report which was termed vague by Maj Dey in his statement is today proving to be right where the name of Indresh Kumar as given out by me for the first time is now figuring in almost all charge sheets relating to right-wing blast cases. Name of P. Joshi as mentioned in my report which is S. Joshi (Sunil Joshi who was found dead) otherwise is now reflecting in every charge sheet related to right-wing blast cases."

Some of the statements of Purohit's superiors in his ACRs (annual confidential reports) made during the court of inquiry suggest an officer who worked with great, if sometimes overzealous, enthusiasm and dedication. In 2005, Purohit in fact was invited to deliver a lecture on intelligence-gathering at the Mumbai headquarters of the Anti-Terror Squad that later charged him of being one of the accused in the Malegaon blast of 2008.

Some statements accessed by NDTV from the proceedings of the Court of Inquiry:

Col. Hasmuk Patel, then Commanding Officer of Southern Command Liaison Unit wrote in Purohit's ACR in 2007: The Officer has infiltrated the SIMI and other underground outfits in the region through his capabilities and go getter attitude.

Col. YK Singh in 2008, noted: "He (Purohit) provided valuable int on Tabliq-e-jamal and MFO (Muslim Fundamentalist activities which were appreciated by environment. He developed on effective informant network in AOR which led to acquisition of Naxal propoganda and terrorist activities."

Col VS Tomar: "Although I have not known you on a personal level, yet by my interactions with officers of varied seniority with the Intelligence Corps, I came to know that you were a motivated, daring and good field intelligence officer. However some people did mention that at times you had a negative trait of boasting for gaining audience."

Lt. Col. SS Raikar (retd): "I do not believe that Lt. Col. Purohit has been involved in any anti-social or anti-national activity which will bring disrepute to the country in general and the Indian army in particular."

Lt. Col Purohit has said that before handing him over to the Anti-Terror Squad, the army "did not look into my performance as an Intelligence  officer..(Or) my reports generated as an inteligence  officer."

Asking that he be reinstated ((is this correct)), he has told the army court "This is the organisation that I have loved the most... I am a true and hardcore soldier. ..I  am more than confident and convinced that the uniform of the Army which I wear with so much pride and the organisation which I serve with honour shall never ever get tarnished by my behaviour and actions...However, now the onus to give me justice and to recover me out of this unfortunate situation definitely lies on the organisation."

கூடங்குளம்: இடிந்தகரையில் பொதுச்சொத்துகளை சேதப்படுத்தி வரும், கூடங்குளம் அணுஉலை எதிர்ப்பாளர்களால், அவர்கள் மீதான வழக்கு அதிகரிக்க வாய்ப்புள்ளது.இடிந்தகரையில் பதுங்கியுள்ள உதயகுமாரை காப்பாற்ற, அவரின் ஆதரவாளர்கள், பொதுச்சொத்துகள் அதிக அளவில் சேதப்படுத்தி வருகின்றனர். ரோடுகள் ஏற்கனவே துண்டிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில், தொலை தொடர்பு சாதனங்கள் சூறையாடப்பட்டுள்ளன. பி.எஸ்.என்.எல்., கம்பங்கள் சாய்க்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. நிழற்குடையிலிருந்த சிமென்ட் நாற்காலிகளை பெயர்த்து, ரோட்டில் போட்டுள்ளனர்.ஏற்கனவே நூற்றுக்கணக்கான வழக்குகள் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில், பொதுச்சொத்துக்கு சேதம் விளைவித்தாக கூடுதல் வழக்குகள் அவர்கள் மீது பதிவாக வாய்ப்பு உள்ளது. அதற்கான கணக்கெடுப்பில், வருவாய்த் துறையினர் தீவிரமாக உள்ளனர்.

கூடங்குளம் அணு உலைக்கு எதிர்ப்பு : மாணவர்கள் பள்ளிக்கு செல்லவில்லை

திருநெல்வேலி : கூடங்குளத்தில் அணுஉலையை மூட வலியுறுத்தி இடிந்தகரையில் ஏராளமானோர் உண்ணாவிரதம் மேற்கொண்டனர். திருநெல்வேலிமாவட்டம் கூடங்குளம் கடற்கரை கிராமத்தில் 1000 மெகாவாட் உற்பத்தி திறன் கொண்ட இரண்டுஅணுஉலைகள் அமைக்கப்படுகின்றன. முதல் அணுஉலையின் கட்டுமான பணி முடிந்து வரும் டிசம்பரில் மின் உற்பத்தி துவங்க உள்ளது. அணுஉலை செயல்படும்பட்டால் கிராம மக்கள் குடியிருப்புகளை காலி செய்யவேண்டிவரும், மீனவர்கள் மீன்பிடிக்க தடை ஏற்படும் என சுற்றுவட்டார கிராமங்களில் பீதி நிலவுகிறது. எனவே கடந்த சில தினங்களாக அங்கு கடையடைப்பு, உண்ணாவிரதம் என போராட்டங்கள் நடந்தன. நேற்று இடிந்தகரையில் நடந்த உண்ணாவிரத்தில் இடிந்தரை, கூடங்குளம், செட்டிகுளம் என சுற்றுவட்டார மீனவ கிராம மக்கள் பங்கேற்றனர். கூடங்குளத்தையொட்டியுள்ள மீனவ கிராமத்தினர் கடலுக்கு மீன் பிடிக்கச்செல்லவில்லை. இடிந்தகரையில் பள்ளி குழந்தைகள் சீருடை அணிந்து வந்து உண்ணாவிரத போராட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்றனர். பள்ளிகளுக்கு செல்லவில்லை. இன்று 17ம் தேதி கூடங்குளத்தில் உண்ணாவிரத போராட்டத்தை நடத்துகின்றனர்.

Kerala CPI-M leader nabbed for former colleague's murder

Kozhikode Senior Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader P Mohanan was arrested Friday for his alleged involvement in the murder of former party colleague T P Chandrasekharan, police said.
In a major embarrassment for Kerala's main opposition party, Mohanan, husband of firebrand CPI-M legislator K K Lathika, was taken into custody after police overtook his car and stopped it. He was travelling with party colleagues.
Mohanan is a senior CPI-M leader and also member of the Kozhikode district CPI-M committee. A large number of CPI-M activists, including top district leaders, assembled in front of the office where Mohanan was kept in custody.
With his arrest, the number of those in custody in the brutal murder of Chandrasekharan has crossed 50. Mohanan’s arrest had been on the cards since the alleged mastermind of the murder P K Kunhanandan surrendered before a court near here last week.
Chandrasekharan, 51, a popular local leader in Onchiyam, was brutally killed on May 4 while returning home on his motorcycle. He was hacked 51 times by a group of assailants who came in an Innova car, according to police.
The entire investigation was proceeding like a pre-written script of the present Congress-led government, CPI-M legislator and Mohanan’s wife Lathika told reporters.
“The government wants to malign our party,” she said, adding that her husband was innocent.
CPI-M Kozhikode district secretary T P Ramakrishnan questioned the manner in which Mohanan was arrested.
“Police did not even give a notice to him,” he said.
The party - which has more than a dozen of its top leaders from Kannur and Kozhikode in custody for the murder - has said that it has no role in the killing.
On Friday, thousands of CPI-M workers will gather in Thiruvananthapuram to protest the witch-hunt of the party by the Oommen Chandy government.
State Home Minister T Radhakrishnan told reporters after Mohanan’s arrest that the government had no role to play in the investigation.
“That’s the job of the police. We give neither direction nor advice on how the case should be handled,” he said.
K K Rema, Chandrasekharan’s wife, said: “His custody was just a matter of time... a few more will soon be taken into custody.”

Syria troops mass on Turkey border

Dubai: The Free Syrian Army said on Friday that Syrian troops were massing near the Turkish border amid tensions since Syria’s downing of a Turkish jet last week. “There are military units massing 15 kilometres or slightly more, from the Turkish border, in the northern region,” of Syria, FSA supreme military council head Mustafa Al Shaikh said.
Asked to comment, a Syrian foreign ministry spokesman reported: “No hostile intentions from the Syrian side.”
Al Shaikh said that around 2,500 troops backed by 170 tanks and other vehicles were stationed at the border, roughly 25km from Aleppo. Al Shaikh said the troop build-up could be a “show of force against the Turkish military, which increased its presence on the Syrian border” after warplane incident.

“Fearing Turkish military intervention, the Syrian military proceeded to mobilise its forces,” he said. But he said the troop build-up might equally be in preparation for an operation inside Syria. “Another possibility ... may be a crackdown in Aleppo countryside,” he said.
Meanwhile, dozens of civilians were killed across the country on Friday, but most of the deaths were in Douma, a suburb of Damascus and Deir Al Zour. The dead included three children and five members of a single family.
